The DANGERS of Eating Chicken Nuggets! A MUST-READ!

A teen from Castle Vale, Birmingham named Stacey Irvine got herself in trouble because of poor food choices. She is indeed a picky eater as she only ate chicken nuggets since she was two years old. Now, she’s 17 and she was rushed to the hospital because of overindulging in chicken nuggets for the past 15 years.

Nothing but Nuggets

When Stacey Irvine was asked about her diet, she told the doctors that she only ate chicken nuggets and she did so every day since she was two years old. The problem with this is that it did not provide her with the vitamins and minerals her body needs. As a result, she grew weak, causing her to have breathing problems and fainting spells.

The doctors discovered that her tongue had swollen blood vessels and also had anemia. Promptly, the medical professionals gave her the vitamins and minerals she needed. As she never had fruits, vegetables, and other meat, it is surprising that she was able to live for more than a decade with not a lot of diseases, including scurvy.

How Bad Were Her Eating Habits?

Eating one type of food alone did not provide her with the nutrients her body requires. Aside from that, it is a fact that chicken nuggets are not healthy. Consuming them every day or in excessive amounts is bad for so many reasons, including:
  1. High in calories and carbohydrates
  2. High in fat, including saturated fat
  3. High in sodium
  4. With tertiary butyl hydroquinone (tBHQ), which is a petroleum-based product that prevents food from going rancid
  5. Has dimethylpolysoloxane, an anti-foaming agent that is also an ingredient in silly putty
Almost all chicken nuggets these days are deep fried. The oil used in frying often contains trans fat, which is a type of fat that can cause cell membranes to get deformed. This can lead to metabolic diseases that can include type 2 diabetes.

Many people who have heard about Irvine’s case asked about parental intervention. Her mother told the press that she tried her best but her daughter was a picky eater. The food addiction is often a sign of anxiety and depression. What happened to Stacey Irvine is not only a lesson for those who overindulge in comfort foods, but also to parents who should start instilling good eating habits to their children while they are still young. This way, they will not become picky eaters and they will get the nutrients that they require as they grow older.
