This is How You Clean Your Burned Flat Iron and Make It Look Like New!


You can easily recognize when your flat iron is burnt because of its hateful smell. By happy chance, burnt iron can be cleaned effortlessly. If you know how to clean stained sole plates, you can clean scorched iron too.



How to Clean Burnt Iron

When burning the bottom of your iron, you first unplug it, of course. If you can’t discharge the burnt fabric in one peace, then tweezers or wooden chopsticks to lift the melted pieces from the bottom, after the iron cools totally. If by  chance you won’t be able to remove the melted pieces from the iron, it won’t work properly. Have in mind to remove all of the burnt pieces and then clean the iron with the following techniques.

1. Salt
If scorch marks stay on the iron, even if after removing all  the fabric, then put several tablespoon of salt on soft cloth. Later, put the cloth on the ironing board and turn the iron on to the cotton setting. When the iron heats up, put it on the salt and rub back and forth as far as the marks retreat. In the end, turn the iron off, let the iron cool totally, and wipe the sole plate with dump cloth.

2. Vinegar
If these scorched marks are really dreadful, then you should put more effort in cleaning it. In place of salt, put heated white vinegar and dip a soft cloth in it. Then, smoothly wipe the cloth on the burnt sole plate before the marks are gone. End the process with wiping the bottom of the iron with a muggy cloth previously soaked in clean water.



If this doesn’t work for your iron, then you should mix a few teaspoons of table salt or baking soda with heated white vinegar. Stir the fusion before salt or baking soda are diffused. Soak a clean cloth in this mixture and then clean the burnt iron. Go on with the cleaning till the marks are gone, and later wipe it out with a dump cloth.

3. Laundry Detergent
If your iron is not made of stick sole plate, then you have a choice to clean it with liquid laundry detergent. First thing you should do is to put some drops of the detergent in a small bottle filled with warm water. Then soak a clean cloth in this solution and scrub the sole plate. Finally, dry the bottom of the iron with a towel, before use.

4. Dish Soap
Sometimes, these scorch iron marks cover the iron vents. In order to take care of situation like this, you should mix water with some gentle dish soap like Ivory. Soak a cloth in this mixture and rub the sole plate and the untidy vents. When this stain are gone dry the iron with a towel.



5. Hydrogen peroxide
Another easy way to clean your burnt iron is to soak a cloth in a hydrogen peroxide and then iron it until the stains are gone.

6. Metal Polish
If your iron is not made of coated plate, then you should put some drops of metal polish solution on it, and save your iron. Swab the stains with the polish till they disappear, and then mop it up with dry towel.

Before you decide to use any of the above mentioned techniques, you should read the owner’s manual. The manufacturer may have given indications on how to clean the iron. Nevertheless, the instructions may contain a cleaning solutions that are not appropriate for the iron.



Prevention is Key

To sum this up, the best way to avoid having to clean your iron intensively is to be careful when you use it. You should also be aware of its temperature and the material you’re ironing. Other thing you should have in mind is to clean it regularly and you will prevent your cloth and the iron from the burning and yourself from the cleaning of course. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scrub brushes in order to clean the burnt iron, because you will make more damage.
